The Power of Righteousness

1 John 2:1 (NKJV)–¹  My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

• Matthew 5:6 (AMP)-⁶  Blessed and fortunate and happy and spiritually prosperous (in that state in which the born-again child of God enjoys His favor and salvation) are those who hunger and thirst for (After) righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), for they shall be completely satisfied( Filled)!
• Psalm 40:9-10 (NKJV)-9  I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know. 10  I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly.
• Psalm 118:19-20 (NKJV)-19 Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, And I will praise the LORD.20 This is the gate of the LORD, through which the righteous shall enter.
• Hebrews 10:19-22 (NKJV)-¹⁹  Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,²⁰  by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,²¹  and having a High Priest over the house of God,²²  let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
• Jeremiah 23:6 (NKJV)-⁶  In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
• Malachi 4:2 (NKJV)-²  But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings;

In our last blog, we discussed exploring the deeper aspects of God. One of these Bible truths in Scripture is righteousness (Heb 5:13-14). Understanding righteousness is paramount to our Christian walk. We cannot earn righteousness by our good works, self-effort, or performance. It is solely by faith in Christ and His righteousness. In our Born Again spirit, we are righteous before God, even if we feel unrighteous at times. Even when we sin, it doesn’t change our right standing before God. The Bible uses the word imputed. It is an accounting term in Greek. It means Christ’s righteousness has been credited to our account! It is a gift. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)-²¹  For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. We are right with God, and God is right with us. This is a wonderful truth in the scriptures. Romans 5:1-2 (NKJV)-1  Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,2  through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. The word justified means we have been declared righteous before God by the blood of Jesus, and it produces peace in our hearts. What are you crediting to your account in your life? Fear, failure, unworthiness, or shame?

When we don’t receive and walk in the revelation of righteousness or have a righteous consciousness, it reveals itself in feelings of guilt, sin consciousness, rejection, fear, timidity, a victim mentality, insecurity, being introverted, under condemnation, never feeling like you measure up, feeling like a failure, feeling unworthy, worthless, undeserving, unaccepted, not fit for (Eph 1:6). No one would like to live like that. Thank God He has made a way for us to overcome! Romans 5:17 (NKJV)-¹⁷  For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. As one minister said, “We can reign in life and not feel rained on all the time!” We need to understand that Satan hates and attacks righteousness (Zech 3:1-4). We see this in culture, politics, and even in religious doctrine and Churches. Satan was demoted and kicked out of heaven for pride and self-righteousness. (Isaiah 14: 12-14). He wants us to live in a state of fear, unworthiness, and shame. That God is mad at us and out to get us! That God will turn His back on us when we sin and fail Him. Wait a minute, that can’t be true because we are seated with Christ in heavenly places(Eph. 2:6). This is the status of righteousness, a righteous one in Christ. We are not on the wrong side of heaven and God.

Understanding righteousness is important. Because of our right standing with God, because of Jesus, we have a firm foundation to build our lives upon (Prov. 10:25). We are right with God!!! We are immovable, steadfast, sure, and steady. We don’t have to lose it emotionally or spiritually. We can come boldly before God without fear or hesitation ( Heb. 4:16). Understanding righteousness produces peace and joy in our lives!! Understanding righteousness shows you how deeply and unconditionally you are loved by God! No more stains of shame, guilt, failure, or fear! Because of righteousness, we can receive the goodness of God by faith. This includes healing as well!( 1 Peter 2:24). Because of righteousness, we are set free from the corruption of this world ( 2 Peter 1:1-4). This includes depression, poverty, sickness, and disease! Look at Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? (1 Cor.2:12). He gave us His righteousness. We are one spirit with Christ that includes His righteousness (1 Cor. 6:17). We are right with God! Understanding righteousness is knowing that we have overcome darkness and Satan (Col 1:13, Gal. 1:4)! That we wear the armor, the breastplate of righteousness, and we are more than conquerors. This protects our heart, the center of our being, where choices are made. This keeps us in tune with God that we may fellowship with Him unhindered and without fear or condemnation. Walking in righteousness is walking in humility, the opposite of pride. This righteousness makes available the grace of God in our lives (James 4:6).

We need to pray the prayer that Apostle Paul prayed in Ephesians chapter one. Ephesians 1:17-18 (NKJV)-¹⁷  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,¹⁸  the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, One of these riches of the glory His inhertance in the saints is righteousness! That our understanding would be enlightened regarding righteousness. Under the Old Testament, they could never be considered righteous unless they fully observed and obeyed the law. They always came up short. In the New Covenant, righteousness is received by faith in Christ and not based on our performance (Phil. 3:9).

In closing, hold on to your hat; I have many scriptures that discuss righteousness, the power of righteousness, and the blessings and benefits of righteousness. Promises from God’s Word that we can claim and walk in. It brings us to a deeper understanding of this wonderful and glorious truth. Take time to go over these scriptures and meditate on them. You can reign in life because of the grace of God and the gift of righteousness ( Rom 5:17).

• Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV)-6  As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord ( and His righteousness) , so walk in Him, ( walk in His righteousness), rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
• 1 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV) -17  But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. ( Includes His righteousness).
• Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)-33  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
• 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)-16  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17  that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
• Romans 5:17 (NKJV)-17  For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
• Romans 10:10 (NKJV)-10  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Greek word for salvation-soteria-means saved, healed, delivered)
• Romans 9:30 (NKJV)-30  What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;
• 1 Corinthians 1:30 (NKJV)-30  But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption–
• 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)–21  For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
• Philippians 3:9 (NKJV)-9  and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
• Philippians 1:10-11 (NKJV)-10  that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11  being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. ( righteousness has fruits that come from abiding in Christ, the vine)
• Ephesians 4:23-24 (NKJV)-23  and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24  and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
• Ephesians 6:14 (NKJV)-14  Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
• Psalm 5:12 (NKJV)-12  For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.
• Psalm 11:7 (NKJV)-7  For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.
• Psalm 14:5 (NKJV)-5  There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous.
• Psalm 15:2 (NKJV)-2  He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart;
• Psalm 18:20 (NKJV)-20  The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands, He has recompensed me.
• Psalm 32:11 (NKJV)-11  Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
• Psalm 34:15 (NKJV)-15  The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry.
• Psalm 34:17 (NKJV)-17  The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.
• Psalm 34:19 (NKJV)-19  Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.
• Psalm 37:5-6 (NKJV)-5  Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6  He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.
• Psalm 37:21 (NKJV)-21  The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives.
• Psalm 37:25 (NKJV)-25  I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.
• Psalm 37:29 (NKJV) –29  The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever.
• Psalm 37:30 (NKJV) –30  The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice.
• Psalm 37:39 (NKJV)-39  But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble.
• Psalm 55:22 (NKJV)-22  Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
• Psalm 58:11 (NKJV)-11  So that men will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; Surely He is God who judges in the earth.”
• Psalm 64:10 (NKJV)-10  The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and trust in Him. And all the upright in heart shall glory.
• Psalm 72:7 (NKJV)-7  In His days the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, Until the moon is no more.
• Psalm 85:10 (NKJV)-10  Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed.
• Psalm 92:12 (NKJV)-12  The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
• Psalm 97:11 (NKJV)-11  Light is sown for the righteous, And gladness for the upright in heart.
• Psalm 103:6 (NKJV)-6  The LORD executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed.
• Psalm 112:6 (NKJV)-6  Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.
• Psalm 118:15 (NKJV)-15  The voice of rejoicing and salvation Is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.
• Psalm 119:40 (AMP)–⁴⁰  Behold, I long for Your precepts; in Your righteousness give me renewed life.
• Psalm 140:13 (NKJV)-13  Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; The upright shall dwell in Your presence.
• Proverbs 2:8-9 (NKJV)-8  He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. 9  Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path.
• Proverbs 8:7-8 (NKJV)–7  For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.8  All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.
• Job 17:9 (TLB)–⁹  the righteous shall move onward and forward; those with pure hearts shall become stronger and stronger.
• Proverbs 10:2 (NKJV)-2  Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, But righteousness delivers from death.
• Proverbs 10:3 (NKJV)-3  The LORD will not allow the righteous soul to famish, But He casts away the desire of the wicked.
• Proverbs 10:6 (NKJV)-6  Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
• Proverbs 10:7 (NKJV)-7  The memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot.
• Proverbs 10:11 (NKJV)-11  The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
• Proverbs 10:16 (NKJV)-16  The labor of the righteous leads to life, The wages of the wicked to sin.
• Proverbs 10:20 (NKJV)-20  The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little.
• Proverbs 10:21 (NKJV)-21  The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.
• Proverbs 10:24 (NKJV)-24  The fear of the wicked will come upon him, And the desire of the righteous will be granted.
• Proverbs 10:25 (NKJV)=25  When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.
• Proverbs 10:28 (NKJV)–28  The hope of the righteous will be gladness, But the expectation of the wicked will perish.
• Proverbs 10:30 (NKJV)-30  The righteous will never be removed, But the wicked will not inhabit the earth.
• Proverbs 10:31 (NKJV)-31  The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, But the perverse tongue will be cut out.
• Proverbs 10:32 (NKJV)-32  The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.
• Proverbs 11:5-6 (NKJV)-5  The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness. 6  The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the unfaithful will be caught by their lust.
• Proverbs 11:8 (NKJV)-8  The righteous is delivered from trouble, And it comes to the wicked instead.
• Proverbs 11:9 (NKJV)9  The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
• Proverbs 11:18-19 (NKJV)-18  The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward.
• Proverbs 11:19 (NKJB) As righteousness leads to life, So he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death.
• Proverbs 11:21 (NKJV)-21  Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.
• Proverbs 11:23 (NKJV)-23  The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
• Proverbs 11:28 (NKJV)-28  He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.
• Proverbs 11:30 (NKJV)–30  The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.
• Proverbs 11:31 (NKJV)-31  If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth, How much more the ungodly and the sinner.
• Proverbs 12:3 (NKJV)-3  A man is not established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous cannot be moved.
• Proverbs 12:5 (NKJV)-5  The thoughts of the righteous are right, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.
• Proverbs 12:7 (NKJV)-7  The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand.
• Proverbs 12:10 (NKJV)-10  A righteous man regards the life of his animal, But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
• Proverbs 12:12 (NKJV)-12  The wicked covet the catch of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit.
• Proverbs 12:13 (NKJV)-13  The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will come through trouble.
• Proverbs 12:21 (NKJV)-21  No grave trouble will overtake the righteous, But the wicked shall be filled with evil.
• Proverbs 12:26 (NKJV)-26  The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray.

• Proverbs 15:29 (NKJV)-29  The LORD is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.
• Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV)-10  The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.
• Proverbs 20:7 (NKJV)-7  The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.
• Proverbs 21:21 (NKJV)–21  He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness and honor.
• Proverbs 21:26 (NKJV)-26  He covets greedily all day long, But the righteous gives and does not spare.
• Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV)-16  For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.
• Proverbs 28:1 (NKJV)-1  The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion.
• Proverbs 28:12 (NKJV)-12  When the righteous rejoice, there is great glory; But when the wicked arise, men hide themselves.
• Proverbs 29:2 (NKJV)-2  When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
• Proverbs 29:6 (NKJV)-6  By transgression an evil man is snared, But the righteous sings and rejoices.
• Proverbs 29:7 (NKJV)-7  The righteous considers the cause of the poor, But the wicked does not understand such knowledge.
• Isaiah 32:17 (NKJV)-17  The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.
• Isaiah 42:6-7 (NKJV)–6  “I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles, 7  To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.
• Isaiah 54:14 (NKJV)–14  In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you.
• Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV)–17  No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD.
• Isaiah 61:10 (NKJV)-10  I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. (We are the bride of Christ).
• Jeremiah 51:10 (NKJV)-10  The LORD has revealed our righteousness. Come and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.
• Hosea 2:19 (NKJV)-19  “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;
• Hosea 10:12 (NKJV)-12  Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.
• Romans 1:17 (NKJV)-17  For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
• Romans 5:21 (NKJV)-21  so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
• Romans 6:18 (NKJV)-18  And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
• Romans 6:19 (NKJV)-19  I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.
• Romans 8:4 (NKJV)-4  that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
• Romans 8:10 (NKJV)-10  And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
• Romans 10:4 (NKJV)4  For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
• Romans 14:17 (NKJV)17  for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
• Luke 12:32 (NKJV)–³²  Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. ( righteousness).
• Luke 17:20-21 (NKJV)–²⁰  Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation;²¹  nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”
• 1 Corinthians 15:33-34 (NKJV)-33  Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” 34  Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.
• 2 Corinthians 3:9 (NKJV)-9  For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.
• 2 Corinthians 6:7 (NKJV)-7  by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
• 2 Corinthians 6:14 (NKJV)-14  Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
• 2 Corinthians 9:10 (NKJV)-10  Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness,
• Ephesians 6:14 (NKJV)–¹⁴  Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
• 2 Timothy 2:22 (NKJV)-22  Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
• Titus 3:4-7 (NKJV)-4  But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5  not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6  whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7  that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
• James 1:20 (NKJV)–20  for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
• James 2:23 (NKJV)–23  And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.
• James 3:18 (NKJV)–18  Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
• 1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV)-24  who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness–by whose stripes you were healed.
• 1 Peter 3:14 (NKJV)-14  But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”
