In our last blog, we talked about the importance of revelation. If you haven’t read it yet go and check it out. Let’s continue this conversation. In Psalm 19:7-8 (NKJV)-7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; I love this scripture. Thank God for His written Word. God’s Word is perfect. In Hebrew it means perfect; blameless; sincerity; entire; whole; complete; the idea of integrity, and truth. The best thing for our soul is the washing of the water of the Word. It has a supernatural impact on our thinking, reasoning, will, and emotions. This tells us that it converts the soul. Some translation uses the word restore. The Hebrew word means to return, go back, or bring back. The Word of God will always bring us back to the right path. To bring us back into alignment with God. This causes a rejoicing in our hearts. It affects our affections, desires, and innermost feelings. It brings us back to our true center.
The word Enlighten in Hebrew is to be or become light, shine; to give light, cause to shine. It means to illuminate. It is amazing how God’s Word changes our lives. The Apostle Paul describes what we were like before we were saved: Romans 1:21 (NKJV)-21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Again in Ephesians 4:18 (NKJV)-18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; (cf. Eph 2:12). We were estranged from the life of God. It was foreign to us. Yet when our eyes were opened by revelation our lives changed. Psalm 119:130 (AMP)-130 The entrance and unfolding of Your words give light; their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple.
In the book of Matthew, we find Jesus talking about parables and the kingdom of God. The sowing of God’s word into the hearts of people. Matthew 13:14-16 (NKJV)-14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,And seeing you will see and not perceive;15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.Their ears are hard of hearing,And their eyes they have closed,Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,So that I should heal them.’16 “But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; How important it is to hear and see and understand with our hearts. That our hearts would not grow dull of hearing. In other words, their hearts are slow of hearing, sluggish. Some received the Words of Jesus and some did not.
We find the same scripture prophesied by Isaiah 6:9-10. it describes the hearts of people and their slowness, sluggishness, and hardness to the Words of Jesus. Yet when we receive the Word of God, the revelation and understanding, and turn towards the Word instead of away, it brings healing. The Word heal in Greek is -iaomai-means “to heal,” to cure, made whole,” In Isaiah 6:9-10, the Hebrew Word heal is râphâh-and it means to mend, to cure, heal, physician, repair, thoroughly, make whole. I see a progression where a person can receive salvation, healing, and anything God promises us in His Word. (2 Cor 1:20) (Cf. Exodus 15:26, Psalm 103:1-3). We must see and hear God’s Word. Faith comes by hearing and hearing (Rom 10:17) and understanding with our hearts. We trust God’s Word to be true! Whether it is for salvation, healing, prosperity, etc. It is hard to receive revelation if we are slow of heart or hard of hearing.
There is general revelation where God has made himself known to mankind ( Rom 1:20) and specific revelation. This is when God’s Word speaks directly to us. We see this in Apostles Paul’s life: Acts 23:11 (NKJV)-11 But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, “Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.” This was a Rhema Word-, a spoken word to Paul. This was a Word of Wisdom, one of the revelation gifts.( 1Cor 12:8 )giving encouragement and direction. Jesus is both Logos, (John 1:1) the written word, and Rhema, the spoken Word. God spoke to Paul that he would go to Rome even under the threat of facing death. How important it is to have an intimate relationship with God. Matthew 4:4 (NKJV)-4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ “ The Greek word is Rhema. God is still speaking to us today by way of revelation through the written and spoken Word of God.
When facing life’s challenges we need God’s Word in our hearts. We need to be transformed in our thinking and understanding. We need revelation. Again as previously mentioned, we are not adding to God’s Word but receiving truth from God’s Word. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NKJV)-13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe. The prerequisite for the Word of God to work effectually in you is to believe it! The Greek word effectively means efficient, to be active, to put forth power, be operative, to work. (cf. Hebrews 4:12). This is why the Word of the Lord is perfect for your life and mine. It has passed the test of time. The Word of God is incorruptible. Heaven and earth will pass away but His Word will still stand. God upholds all things by the power of His- Word. Our lives don’t have to fall apart, surely He can keep our lives together.
Hebrews 1:3 (NKJV)-3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Hebrews 1:1-2 (KJV)-1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; God in times past revealed Himself through the prophets. In this dispensation of Grace, God has revealed Himself through Jesus. He is the Living Word. He is the Logos and the Rhema of God. What a blessing and privilege we have today as Christians. How important God’s Word is for us today. If we want revelation, greater understanding, and wisdom, then we can’t ignore the Word of God. Here is a sobering scripture: Proverbs 13:13 (AMP)-13 Whoever despises the word and counsel [of God] brings destruction upon himself, but he who [reverently] fears and respects the commandment [of God] is rewarded. The enemy wants to steal the Word from our hearts. So we shouldn’t cooperate with him by neglecting the Word of God in our daily lives. May God give us a fresh hunger for His Word. A new desire to study His Word.
Psalm 19:9-11 (NKJV)-9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 119:102-105 (NKJV)-102 I have not departed from Your judgments, For You Yourself have taught me.103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!104 Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Revelation, insight, and understanding come to us because God’s Word is inspired. It is God-breathed. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)-16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Notice it is profitable for us. It is helpful, it is to our advantage. The Word of God is for every area of our lives. If there is ever a great need in the Body of Christ, it is to be students of the Word of God.
