I love to study the scriptures. To learn things I haven’t known before and to remind myself of what I’ve had. The Bible is an unending book of knowledge and revelation. You can learn new things daily as you spend time in God’s Word. It is rich and wonderful. To gain more understanding about our walk with God and His Kingdom is a lifelong journey. It seems like the more I know, I feel the less I know. Yet we are all growing in the knowledge and grace of God. (2 Peter 3;18).
- Psalm 119:18 (NKJV)-18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.
- Acts 26:18 (NKJV)-18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’
- 2 Samuel 22:29 (NKJV)-29 “For You are my lamp, O LORD; The LORD shall enlighten my darkness.
- Job 32:8 (NKJV)-8 But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.
- Psalm 119:129-130 (NKJV)-129 Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul keeps them.130 The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.
- Proverbs 20:5 (NKJV)-5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, But a man of understanding will draw it out.
- Proverbs 18:4 (NKJV)-4 The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook.
- 1 Corinthians 2:11-12 (NKJV)-11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
We must understand that God loves us and wants to communicate with us. ( Job 12:13, Job 29:4, Psalm 16:7 ). He does so by His written Word and by revelation. Look at John 16:13-15 (NKJV)-13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. God by the Holy Spirit wants to communicate His heart, desires, wisdom, counsel, and His will for our lives. He doesn’t want to leave us in the dark. Look at Ephesians 4:17-18 (NKJV)-17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; As Born Again Christians we are no longer alienated from the life of God. Our understanding can be fruitful when it comes to the things of God. We are no longer in the dark. Why? Because we have the Holy Spirit! Look at Isaiah 45:19 (NKJV)-19 I have not spoken in secret, In a dark place of the earth; I did not say to the seed of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in vain’; I, the LORD, speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. ( Deut 29:29).
In reading the book of Acts you can see how God directed and spoke to His disciples. One of the great examples is in the life of Saul who became Paul. God gave tremendous detail by the Holy Spirit to Saul and Ananias. (Acts 9:3-20). Acts 9:15-16 (NKJV)-15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.” Apostle Paul received His calling and the Holy Spirit would show him things to come. How supernatural is that? Couldn’t we expect the same for us since we have the same Holy Spirit? Romans 8:14 (NKJV)-14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
I find an interesting verse in 1 Corinthians 14:verse 2. 1 Corinthians 14:2 (NKJV)
2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. In the Spirit or in the Holy Spirit he speaks mysteries. When? When He speaks in tongues or prays in the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues is direct communication with God. He understands exactly what we are saying even though our mind is unfruitful. The word mysteries is the Greek Word mystērion. In the NT it denotes, not the mysterious (as with the Eng. word), but that which, being outside the range of unassisted natural apprehension, can be made known only by Divine revelation, and is made known in a manner and at a time appointed by God, and to those only who are illumined by His Spirit. (Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.). It is a revelation not hidden from us but uncovered for us! Matthew 13:11 (NKJV)
11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. Another translation of 1 Corinthians 14:2 for mysteries is a secret truth, spiritual secrets, divine revelations, and intimacies.
Apostle Paul said that He and others were stewards of the mysteries of God. 1 Corinthians 4:1 (NKJV)1 Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Apostle Paul is saying we are overseers, managers, house-distributors, and agents of the mysteries of God. With this great understanding, He put things in perspective: 1 Corinthians 13:2 (NKJV)-2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. Knowledge can puff up but Love seeks to edify all! Where is all this revelation, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding? Colossians 2:3 (NKJV)-3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. It is Christ who lives in us by His Spirit. (Gal 4:6, Col 1:27). Look at 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (NKJV)-9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,Nor have entered into the heart of manThe things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. The deep things are the mysteries of God. Notice it says God has revealed. He doesn’t want to keep it from us. He discloses to us. That is why the Holy Spirit is our Helper! ( John 14:26).
When the Spirit of His Son comes into our lives we are joined to His spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV)-17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. It isn’t two spirits but one. We are a spirit, soul, and body. ( 1 Thess 5:23). In our Born Again spirit we have all the wisdom and knowledge that is needed to live the Christian life. ( Job 32:8). What is needed is to learn how to tap into it. Proverbs 20:5 (NKJV)-5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, But a man of understanding will draw it out. First off the Word of God is the first step. We need to study God’s Word and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal His Word to us to the point we are not just hearers but doers of God’s Word.( James 1:22). We put God’s Word into practice in our lives. Praying in the spirit is a way to draw out what is in our spirit. Jesus said that rivers of living water would flow out of our innermost beings. Which He referred to as the Holy Spirit.( John 7:37-39). It is up to us to draw it out through the Word of God and praying in the Holy Spirit. Isaiah 12:3 (NKJV)-3 Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation. Salvation is everything that God has provided for us in Christ. It is our rightful inheritance.(Eph 1:18, Col 1:12). Apostle James tells us if lack the wisdom to ask in faith for it (James 1:5-8). God will give it to us. I believe that wisdom is within our Born Again spirit and the Holy Spirit will illuminate our minds or understanding. In the Gospel of Mark Jesus tells us when we are persecuted that the Holy Spirit will speak through us and give us the words to say to those who are against us. Mark 13:11 (KJV)
11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. I find it also true when ministering to people that the Holy Spirit will illuminate my mind and bring to my remembrance scriptures to share or words that will speak to their situations by the Holy Spirit. Indeed it is the Holy Spirit speaking through us.( John 14:26, John 16:13).
Apostle Paul’s prayer for the Church at Collosse: Colossians 2:2-3 (NKJV)-2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I believe because the spirit of His Son is in us we have access to the treasures of wisdom and knowledge of Christ.( 1 Cor 1:24). This is why God has given to the Church the Gifts of the Spirit. Such as prophecy, Word of wisdom, and Word of knowledge.( 1 Cor 12:8-10). Praying in the Spirit is essential for believers in Christ today. Let us grab that bucket and lower it into the well of salvation and draw out the love and peace of God. Let us draw out the wisdom of God. Let us draw out His will for our lives. It can be a spiritual impression, a thought, or a picture in our mind’s eye. It can come through prophecy, dreams, and visions. It can come through a Word of knowledge or a Word of Wisdom. It can come from a scripture that the Holy Spirit wants us to focus on. 1 Corinthians 2:13 (AMP)-13 And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the [Holy] Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language [to those who possess t One particular testimony is when my wife was healed of he Holy Spirit]. Thank God for the Holy Spirit who is teaching us and leading us into God’s truth. Filling our hearts with His wisdom and revelation. One particular testimony is when my wife was healed from tremendous pain in her hips. She could barely move it was so bad. She prayed, “Holy Spirit what do you want me to do?” The Holy Spirit gave her direction and she obeyed what she heard and was gloriously healed. God is good!( Luke 5:15).
It takes dedication to walk in this realm. It takes a certain amount of commitment and spending time in God’s presence. Learning to listen to His voice within our hearts. It doesn’t happen overnight. We need to spend time in God’s Word as well! Not only does this benefit us but it will benefit those we minister to. Freely we have received we freely give.( Matt 10:8). This is the blessing of the Gospel. Romans 15:29 (NKJV)
29 But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ. It is the power of God! Romans 1:16 (NKJV)-16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. God has given us everything that pertains to life and godliness. We are partakers of the Divine nature. (2 Peter 1-4). In Closing: This is a walk of faith. Believing that God’s Word is true and that we have access to the grace of God(Rom 5:2). Grace is God’s riches at Christ’s expense. (Gal 2:20). God’s grace has provided for us. We appropriate it by faith. What a blessing to pray in the spirit. To fellowship with our Father in heaven. To speak mysteries that can bless our daily lives.
In Christ’s love;
