Where are you today? You could be in your home, hospital, car, or Church. Maybe you’re in a state of despair or confusion. We sometimes see ourselves in an uphill battle. We see ourselves as helpless or vulnerable. How do you approach life? When challenging times come, what is your default position? Anger, overwhelmed, fearful, or resentful? Jesus said, “We would have trials, distress, frustration, and persecution.” He also said,” Take courage, be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). Thank you, Jesus, for that piece of advice. I’m here on earth, and you’re in heaven. Wait a minute, hold on. He also said,” We would have peace in Him.” Did you catch that? In Him! One of the great truths of the New Testament and being in the New Covenant is our postiion in Christ.
What does it mean to be in Christ? Let’s look at some scriptures. Romans 6:3 (NKJV)
3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? If you are Born Again, you have been placed into Christ spiritually. 1 Corinthians 12:13 (NKJV)-13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body–whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free–and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. The Apostle Paul said this about his life. Galatians 2:20 (KJV)-20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. From God’s point of view, He sees us in Christ. Why is this so important? How we view life, ourselves, and situations can determine if we will have victory or not. If we see ourselves as failures, inadequate, or hopeless, it will influence our direction in life. If we see ourselves in Christ and the potential that it offers, we will have a different outcome. Apostle John tells us this: 1 John 4:4 (NKJV)-4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. He is God, it is the Spirit of Christ in you! Galatians 4:6 (NKJV)-6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” ( Colossians 3:3).
Many times, we approach life through our emotions and feelings. That can be detrimental. We react rather than respond. We need to tap into Christ within and draw out what Christ shares with us. There are so many scriptures about who we are in Christ. What we can do through Christ within. 1 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV)-17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. The Greek word for joined is kollaō, and it means to glue, join fast together, to stick, cement, cleave, join (self), keep company. (Strong’s Greek & Hebrew Dictionary). We are one with Christ! Jesus mentioned this about cleaving to one’s wife. ( Matthew 19:5). “The Greek word translated “one” here means “a singular one to the exclusion of another.” It’s much deeper than mere similarity (i.e., being joined together as “one” in purpose); this speaks of complete union. In your spirit, you are completely one with Him. This is powerful, and we need a revelation of this that impacts our hearts and actions and how we navigate life.
If we are in Christ and what does being in Christ share with us? 1 Corinthians 1:30 (NKJV)–30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God–and righteousness and sanctification and redemption– He shares His wisdom with us for we have the mind of Christ. He is righteous, and He shares His righteousness with us. ( 1 John 2:1, 1 Cor 2:16, 2 Cor 5:21). We have the same right standing as Jesus does before the Father. ( Rom 5:19). He shares His Name with us. ( Phil2:9). It is a Name above all names. He gives us His Name to use in prayer. John 14:13-14 (NKJV)-13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. Wow! What a promise.
What else does He share with us? He shares HIs holiness. Ephesians 4:24 (NKJV)-24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Colossians 3:12). Do you see yourself as holy? In Christ, you are holy regardless of how you feel or your performance from day to day. We may not act righteous or holy at times, but it doesn’t change who we are in Christ. The grace and power of being in Christ! Well, I’m just a sinner saved by grace. You are not just a sinner, you are a saint, a holy separated one. He shares His blessings. 1 Timothy 6:15 (NKJV)-15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Because He is blessed, so are we! Ephesians 1:3 (NKJV)3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. Jesus shares his victory over the Devil with us. Colossians 2:15 (NKJV)-15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. ( Eph. 1:20-22), Because we are in Christ, we share the same victory. 2 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV)-14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. Romans 8:37 (NKJV)-37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. He shares His priesthood with us. Hebrews 5:5 (NKJV)-5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.” How wonderful that we share in this. We are called a royal priesthood ( 1 Peter 2:9, Rev. 1:6). We are nothing without Christ, and we are somebody in Christ. We are not deficient in any way. We are accepted and highly favored in Christ ( Eph. 1:6). He shares His special seat with us. Hebrews 10:12 (NKJV)-12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. The Apostle Paul tells us that if we are Born Again, we are seated with Christ. It is a place of honor, dignity, and authority. Ephesians 2:6 (NKJV)-6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
Let’s keep going with a few more. He shares His love with us. John 17:26 (NKJV)-26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” Romans 5:5 (NKJV)-5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. We can never say that God doesn’t love us. His love for us is not based on our performance. He shares His peace with us. John 14:27 (NKJV)-27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. He shares His healing with us. He is one of the great Names of God, Jehovaj Rapha. ( Exodus 15:26). Jesus is the balm of Gilead. ( Jer. 8:22, Matt 9:12). He shares His status with us. Hebrews 1:5 (NKJV)-5 For to which of the angels did He ever say: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”? And again: “I will be to Him a Father,And He shall be to Me a Son”? We are sons of God. This is our position in Christ. Galatians 3:26 (NKJV)-26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. God wants us to live like sons in His kingdom and not with a slave mentality. ( Luke 12:32). It is a wonderful truth that we are heirs and joint heirs with Christ. ( Rom. 8:17).
In closing. In the ages to come, we will share in His rulership. We will reign with Christ. Revelation 5:10 (NKJV)-10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.” We have a bright future in Christ. It is a wonderful picture the Bible paints for us for those who are in Christ. Acts 17:28 (NKJV)-28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ So today, let this truth of who you are in Christ be a revelation in your heart. Let it humble us and reveal to us our dependence on Him every day. Let this be our vision. We need to see ourselves in Him. Let our imagination picture ourselves in Him. This is our real and new identity. What a beautiful thing. We died with Him, we were buried with Him, and we rose with Him. Hallelujah and amen! Romans 6:4 (NKJV)-4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
In Christ’s love;
