1. Charismatic (spiritual) gifts: Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Discerning of spirits, Prophecy, Diverse kinds Tongues, Interpretation of tongues, Gift of Faith, Gifts of Healings, and Working of Miracles
2. The gifts function differently in each individual. Take, for example, the working of miracles. In Elijah it was associated with the mantle he wore; in Moses, with the rod which had been changed into a serpent, and in Samson, the miraculous power was inseparable from his physique, so that he became supernaturally strong when the Spirit was upon him. However, in each instance, it was the manifestation of the same gift, although the operations were so diverse. Howard Carter
Note: Rev. Gary Bailey has traveled extensively over the years and has visited many Pentecostal, Assembly of God, and Non-denominational Spirit-filled Churches. He has seen a minimum display of the operation of the Gifts of the Spirit. This is due to a lack of teaching and demonstration especially in the Vocal Gifts. Brother Gary has a passion for seeing the Body of Christ embrace the move of the Spirit. The whole Church, not just an individual needs to covet these Gifts. Then, the Spirit will divide to every man severally as He wills.
3. (Revelation gifts, -that reveal something)
a. Word of Wisdom –
1. Is a supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose and plan in the mind and will of God.
2. The word of wisdom will always be future tense. It will speak regarding something you are to do or reveal something that is going to happen. Hidden things are revealed that we would not usually know.
3. In essence, the Word of Wisdom is the revealing of supernatural instruction, direction, or guidance that reveals the perfect will of God concerning a specific situation.
4. The Word of Wisdom is the supernatural instruction from God that solves the problem and reveals the way to move forward.
5. Word of wisdom is the answer that is needed in a particular situation.
6. Word of wisdom- how to apply the Word of knowledge.
7. The Word of Wisdom is not the gift of wisdom.
8. Since the Lord God will do nothing but He reveals His secret unto His servants the prophets, (Amos 3:7 ) the smallest revelation of His purpose is more important than the greatest deliberations ever made in the councils of men, and such enlightenment becomes for us wisdom of the first magnitude. Howard Carter
9. An example –Acts 8:26, Acts11:28; Acts 21:10-11; Acts 27:23-24, 2 Kings 4:3-4, Matthew 17:24-27, Mark 10:21-22,Genesis 12:1, Gen 26:1-3, Gen 26:12-13.
b. Word of Knowledge –
1. Tells you what the problem is, Word of wisdom is the answer,
2. Is the supernatural revelation by the Holy Ghost of certain facts in the mind of God, about persons, places, or things. It is a fragment of the total and supreme knowledge of God.
3. Deals with the past and the present.
4. Can reveal sickness and disease. “Such as you are healed from a particular disease.”
5. It is the supernatural revelation of facts that cannot be learned through study or experience.
6. The focus of this gift is not the accumulation of knowledge but the transmission of knowledge.
7. It is knowledge miraculously conveyed—a divinely granted flash of revelation.
8. The Word of Knowledge is not a faculty of mental knowledge but a revelation by the Holy Spirit.
9. It is not an acquisition but a gift.
10. The Word of Knowledge is one way God communicates to people through the inspired speech of a Spirit-filled believer. This “word” could also come via tongues and interpretation or through prophecy. Vernam Linzey.
11. When a person states something that is according to fact, and of which he has had no previous knowledge, then it has been given to him supernaturally and is the word of knowledge. Howard Carter
12. An example- Matt. 16:16-17, John 1:48, John 4:7-19, 1 Samuel 9:20, Jer.11:18, Dan 10:1, Acts 9:11, Acts 14:9-10.

2. Also the ability to see or hear into the spiritual realm the activity of angels or demons. An example-Matt. 2:12, 2 Kings 6:17; Acts 16:16-18, Acts 9:11-12
3. Discerning of Spirits is not having remarkable insight, an aptitude for profound reasoning, or wise judgment. Vernam Linzey. (It is not human intuition or suspicion )
4. The gift enables one to distinguish between the expository preaching of the faithful shepherd of the flock and the sounding brass of the pretender.
5. The Gift of Discerning of Spirits often works with words of wisdom and knowledge to expose and rebuke spirits of error. It can come through a dream or a vision.
6. When James and John wanted to call down fire upon certain people, Jesus rebuked them (Luke 9:54–55). They did not know what spirit they were of. Vernam Linzey.
7. 1 John 4:1-3 (KJV) -1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
8. 1 John 4:6 (NKJV) -6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
9. The Discerning of spirits is God’s answer to Satan’s deception. 2 Thess. 2:9-12
10. Note: These three revelation gifts come to the mind by the Spirit of God through your spirit. The individual receives enlightenment in his mind by the operation of the Spirit, and can, therefore, communicate the revelation to others. However, the servant of the Lord has not created the thought; he has simply received it. Howard Carter

4. This gift is brought forth by the Holy Spirit to affect healing and a cure in the body of an injured, diseased, or sick person.
5. This is a heavenly gift that is different from simply praying in faith for a sick person to be healed.
6. The Gifts of Healings come upon a believer to minister to the sick in the power of the Spirit with a divine grace gift.
7. When this gift is in operation, it can often be tangible in such a way that it is felt or noticeably discerned by the person receiving God’s healing power-physically or emotionally. (Such as warmth, shaking, falling, tears, heat, and electricity).
8. Gifts of Healings-(Plural)-Just as there are “classes” of diseases, eg, nervous diseases, muscular diseases, skin diseases, etc., so each of the Gifts of Healings has doubtless a counteracting effect on some particular “class” of disease. When all the gifts of healing are in operation, then all classes of disease can be healed.
9. Acts 19:11-12 (NKJV) –11 Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.

14. It also carries with it the thought: of bubbling forth like a fountain.
15. To be moved (burdened) or carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21
16. The simple gift of prophecy should not be confused with the prophetic office or with a prophetic utterance that may come forth in the prophet’s Ministry.
17. A genuine prophetic utterance never contradicts; neither is equal to, the written Word of God. The simple gift of prophecy sharpens, illuminates, and energizes the written Word of God.
18. Prophecies are to be tested, and judged, whether by a prophet or a congregant giving a prophetic utterance. (1 Cor. 14:29, 1 Thess. 5:20-21). Usually by a pastor(s), elder, or another prophet.
19. There is no infallibility with the Gifts of the Spirit, otherwise, the apostle would not instruct the prophets to “let the others judge.” Howard Carter.

29. This gift of prophecy will make the unconverted man conscious of the presence of God, and through the prophetic utterance, God may give him some revelation of himself or of his condition, that is, if the one who prophesies possesses a gift of revelation.(Word of knowledge, Word of Wisdom, Discerning of Spirits) Howard Carter
30. There seems to be an urge, a very gracious anointing of the Spirit that makes one feel free to speak and seems gently to compel the utterance. Then the person will have an inward witness. Howard Carter
31. A person with the simple gift of prophecy, therefore, which is an inspirational gift, cannot be called a seer. Howard Carter
32. Here is a gift that can open the door to other manifestations, and encourage the possessor to seek the greater gifts of revelation. This is the gift for all to covet which will spread its simple inspiration around, as the flowers scatter their fragrance. 5. You can operate in your private prayer language when you want. It is as you will. 1 Cor. 14:15
6. However, the nine gifts [or manifestations] of the Spirit listed here operate as the Spirit wills, not when you will. This proves that your private prayer language is not the same as the Gift of tongues to be used in the church service.
5. These need to be interpreted. Your prayer language can be but does not have to be. At times God will give you an interpretation.
6. Isaiah 28:11-12 (NKJV) -11 For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, 12 To whom He said, “This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest,” And, “This is the refreshing”; ( Zep. 3:9 )-

15. This is distinguished from “praying” in tongues, which is intended to edify one’s own spirit — Mark 16:17;1 Cor. 14:4,1 Cor 14:14, Jude 20).
16. A message in tongues to the body is always to be interpreted and is limited to three persons within a gathering (1 Cor. 14:27). However, there may be more than three messages in tongues.
17. Not every believer is given the spiritual gift of tongues and interpretation of tongues. 1 Cor. 12:30.

10. 1 Cor 14:27– “let one interpret.” -This helps to eliminate any confusion or guessing or delay as to who will interpret a message in tongues in a service. When a person knows who will interpret they are more ready and willing to give a message in tongues as the Spirit leads. Gary Bailey
11. Tongues in the assembly often act as a trumpet -metaphorically announcing the voice of God coming into and being in a meeting or service.
12. While the interpretation will be given in the language of the hearers, the one giving the interpretation will not know ahead of time what the message will be. He, like the hearers, will have the message unfold word by word as he speaks. Vernam Linzey.
13. It can be shorter or longer than the message in tongues. It should immediately follow the message in tongues. When Daniel interpreted the handwriting on the wall to Belshazzar, he used three sentences to explain the meaning of three words (Dan. 5:25–28).
14. It is a good practice that the pastor announces before the service starts who will interpret in any given service.
15. The Bible says, “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God…”(Eph. 4:30). He has been grieved at times in some churches—grieved by wanting to manifest Himself and not being permitted to do so, and grieved by the way some people do things out of order! When someone is uttering a message in tongues, a person who is used in the gift of interpretation should immediately begin to be in tune with the Spirit (if he is not already), because the Lord may want to use him in the operation of that gift. Kenneth E. Hagin.
Not only do we want to preach the uncompromised Word of God but be a Church that gives room -space for the Holy Spirit to move in our midst. We are all learning and growing in our obedience to the Holy Spirit. May God be glorified.
In Christ’s love;
